He unwraps the burger and takes a bite out of its soul, it falls apart in his hand like a delicate rose; revealing but more deliciousness.
“So have you ever thought about the word 'lover'?” She eats one of his fries.
“Probably not as thoroughly as you have, what’s on your mind.” He stops the massacre and takes a sip from his cup.
“Nothing in particular, don’t you think that it’s kind of weird how we use it in slightly conflicting definitions?” She continues on his French fries.
“And in what sense are their definitions conflicting?”
“Well, what do you call two people in a relationship?”
“Lovers,” his smile grows on his face.
“And what about one guy, who admires someone else?”
“Well, I would imagine he too would be a lover.” He begins to sacrifice his fries to his hunger as well now, leaving his burger to think about what comes next.
“So someone who admires, people having sex, and people in love are all called lovers? You don’t think that those are conflicting?” Her tone because slightly forceful.
“Well, can’t love and sex be two separate things?” He swirls his next victim in his bloodbath of salt. “People can have sex and not be in love.”
Her head goes down to hide her frustration; a war in ethics was not the meaning of this conversation.
She stares at the wetness of her victims, how they lay there unsuspecting. “So you don’t think that the word ‘lovers’ has contradicting meanings?” She reaches for her next casualty of hunger.
He nods his head in agreement, “But of course there would be better roles for each part, but a word doesn’t ever have to be cut and dry. A relationship is defined as mutual dealing between parties – or something like that, so in essence a friendship is a relationship. Just like me talking to a girl for span of time, even though nothing will ever happen, we still have a relationship.” He then starts to pick at his original victim, looks as though he gets to make it to Dumpsterville.
“I think I could agree to that, there are always better words to describe things.” She looks up and smirks, “So define us then.”
“Well last time I checked we were just friends, but where do we always end up?”
