I just had to tell SOMEBODY about these stories I just read:
1. Intel's Power Naps:
Intel just designed a board that puts USB ports, the GPU, & the video RAM to sleep. It puts the USB (3.0 mind you) ports to sleep whenever they're not in use. It puts the GPU and video RAM (the graphic card that you use to view this properly right now) to sleep when the page isn't changing by using a buffer screen (like a picture). Mind you these little "naps" are generally only for a couple milliseconds. However, milliseconds add up and Intel has reported that system will idle at 10% less power than before, power naps are the best!
2. superPOD:
This girl in Chelmsfordwas taking cover in a thunderstorm when she got hit by lighting. Normally, you'd be dead. However, her iPod managed to save her by absorbing the electricity and taking the fatal spark. She ended up suffering minor burns on her neck, chest, and leg.
